College of Health and Human Sciences Spring 2017 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony

The Colorado State University College of Health and Human Sciences will confer undergraduate degrees at a commencement ceremony on Friday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m., in Moby Arena. CSU President Tony Frank will give the Charge to the Class, featuring Trevor Davis, (business, '15), winner of 2015 CSU's Got Talent. Jane Robbe Rhodes, a member of the Board of Governors of the Colorado State University System, will confer the degrees. Chelsea Reynolds, the recipient of the College of Health and Human Sciences Outstanding Senior Award, will be the student speaker. Jeff McCubbin, dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences, will welcome guests and present the degree candidates. Maj. Christiane Makela, U.S. Air Force ROTC, and LTC James Blanton, U.S. Army ROTC, will announce the newly commissioned officers. Sergio Ortiz (construction management, '09) will welcome the new graduates to the Alumni Association. Associate Dean for Academic Programs Dale DeVoe will emcee at the ceremony.

President Tony Frank - Charge to the Class

Tony Frank is the 14th president of Colorado State University, one of the nation's leading public land-grant research universities with more than 29,000 students and more than $300 million in annual research activity. Since his appointment to the presidency in 2008, he has overseen a period of record fund-raising and enrollment, rising graduation rates, increasing diversity, and unprecedented research support. He was named Chancellor of the Colorado State University System on June 1, 2015.

Chelsea Reynolds - Student Speaker

Chelsea Reynolds is a magna cum laude candidate earning a B.S. in human development and family studies, with a second major in Spanish. At CSU, she served on the HDFS Student Outreach and Undergraduate Leadership council, helping organize several community events and supporting departmental activities, and she has been a strong leader in the CSU Club for Students with Chronic Illness, having served last year as vice president. Reynolds has been on dialysis and waiting for a kidney transplant for more than three years and continues to support other students facing serious health challenges while in college. In the community, she has volunteered with her church, and Young Life, and worked at Finally Home. Chelsea was recognized for her leadership with the College of Health and Human Sciences Outstanding Senior Award. She has been accepted into the Ph.D. program in Applied Developmental Sciences at CSU.

Sergio Ortiz ('09) - Welcome to the Alumni Association

Sergio Ortiz earned a B.S. in construction management and a minor in business administration from CSU in 2009. Working for an integrated design-build firm, Ortiz has worked with new building techniques and fast-tracked projects in a wide variety of markets and building types. Most notably, Ortiz was the project manager and LEED Administrator for the award-winning LEED Platinum Certified Powerhouse Energy Institute at CSU. Ortiz and his wife Audrey live in Fort Collins with their three children, Maree, Adriana, and Mila. Ortiz never really left CSU, sharing his passions and gifts with the Department of Construction Management and as a member of the College of Health and Human Sciences Emerging Leaders Council.

Associate Dean Dale DeVoe - Emcee

Dale DeVoe will emcee the commencement ceremony for the last time as associate dean for academic programs. He will be returning to the faculty in the Department of Health and Exercise Science as professor next year where he will continue his 27-year career at Colorado State. He served as associate dean for the College of Health and Human Sciences for 11 years.
