The Patricia McKlem Medical Nutrition Therapy Lab is a teaching and research facility in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition. The lab contains a furnished hospital room, counseling room, laboratory area for anthropometric body measurements and a biological research area. The lab contains state-of-the-art equipment for measurement of vital signs, resting metabolic rate, body composition and blood chemistry as well as video equipment for recording and playback of counseling sessions.
The laboratory is used by students in dietetic classes including FSHN 450 Medical Nutrition Therapy, FSHN 360 Nutrition Assessment and FSHN 428 Nutrition Teaching and Counseling Techniques. The lab is also used by faculty and graduate students for research. Current projects include biomarker validation of EFNEP education programs by Dr. Susan Baker and Dr. Garry Auld.
